Issues

1. Environment :
Require all building construction projects to have Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Certification. These structures burn less energy for heating and cooling, are made of materials produced at the expense of few fossil fuels, incorporate recycled building materials, waste less water and are built to take into account their natural environment. Also, increase state funding and make Oklahoma a leader in biodiesel and waste vegetable oil, both of which are alternative fuels for vehicles; lower carbon emission by 20% by the year 2016.

2. Healthcare : Provide a Patient Bill of Rights to protect our patients such as making it mandatory for hospital admitting departments to require a photo state I.D. or driver license along with your health insurance card to prevent medical identification fraud; allow patients the right to die if they are a terminally ill, mentally competent (adult) who can self-administer the life-ending medication prescribed by a physician, in writing, along with a second opinion by another physician, the patient's attorney, and a notary public licensed in Oklahoma, which will be monitored by the Oklahoma Department of Health; allow terminally ill patients the right to an alternative pain management method by allowing physicians to prescribe medical marijuana to their patients which will be regulated and enforced by the Oklahoma Department of Health which will investigate the medical history of the patient so that the information will help the Oklahoma Department of Health render a decision of issuing marijuana to the patient at the request of the physician.

3. Housing : Reform the landlord-tenant law by creating a state housing standards act which would help prevent landlords from becoming slumlords by establishing minimum standards for the upkeep, habitability and management of rental property along with creating housing courts to mediate disputes and decide legal civil matters between landlords and tenants; Outlaw adjustable rate mortgages because they are a legal form of loan sharking and allow only fixed rate mortgages in Oklahoma.

4. Animal Rights : Create measures that would allow pets (domestic, exotic, and farm animals) to be included in orders of protection requested by victims of domestic violence. In order to protect animals, we should ban porn that exploits them

5. Crime Control : Get tough on gang and juvenile violence by reforming our weak juvenile justice system by placing the Office of Juvenile Affairs under the Department of Corrections and certifying juveniles to adults after they have committed a third violent offense (murder, rape, robbery, etc.); create anti-sagging laws for public decency and anti-intimidation laws against gang members trying to prevent eyewitnesses from working with law enforcement officials along with providing them protection for their information. Reform the process of pardons and parole in Oklahoma by eliminating the Pardon and Parole Board and give the governor full pardon authority and the Department of Corrections all parole responsibilities.

6. Education : Establish a student tuition recovery fund to protect any Oklahoma resident who attends a private institution from losing money if the student prepaid tuition and suffered a financial loss as a result of the school closing, failing to live up to its enrollment agreement, or refusing to pay a court judgment; to give the Oklahoma Department of Education oversight over private schools that don't seek accreditation; allow religion and sex education to be taught in schools as an elective, which will require students getting their parents' permission before enrolling; allow college students to put their textbooks on their tuition and fees bill so that they will be ready for the first day of class; provide educational preference for individuals applying for state jobs ranging from 5-10 points if they have more education than the required minimum; Consolidate the number of school districts in Oklahoma which is 539, require new on-coming teachers to have a minimum of a master's degree to better enrich the learning of our students and to help justify higher wages and make them competitive with other states and countries, and allow state-wide school choice so that parents can decide where they want their children to go which will make the school districts more competitive with each other.

7. Worker Rights : Establish a bill that will require all state, county, city, and private employers to pay their employees at least semi-monthly instead of once a month; establish the Family Temporary Disability Insurance system which uses the state's disability insurance system to expand paid coverage to Oklahoma workers who need to take time off from work (1 1/2 months) to care for newborns or sick family members. Through the new system, most employees will receive about 55 percent of their salary for six weeks of leave; establish the At-Home Infant Care program (AHIC) which provides partial wage replacement to low-income, working parents who choose to have one parent stay home for the first year of a child's life.

8. Tort Reform : Establish a Medical Professional Liability Court. It would have jurisdiction over all malpractice claims. It will allow judges to hire expert witnesses on behalf of the court, to give juries instructions on legal and medical standards for deciding cases, and to provide juries with a schedule of benefits. It would also have an appellate division to hear malpractice appeals.

9. Military Support : Veterans and members of the National Guard shall receive adequate and affordable health care for their entire lives; every military family shall be provided free, comprehensive financial education to help create a safety net to protect them from a life of poverty; no military family shall be subjected to predatory financial practices; all military families shall have access to counseling and emotional support when a family member is deployed, activated, or killed or disabled in action; the spouse of a service member shall be given reasonable leave when his or her spouse has been deployed and shall be freed from administrative red tape to earn a living; adequate and appropriate death benefits shall be provided for all veterans and members and retirees of the National Guard; encourage private employers to create job preferences for veterans and to protect veterans from penalties due to time spent in service; and military families shall receive access to affordable higher education and occupational training, and shall receive help in identifying and obtaining other benefits that are available to them.

10. Consumer Protection : Require sellers on eBay to annually obtain auctioneer licenses and surety bonds; require online lens suppliers to verify prescriptions with the prescribing doctor and requiring doctors to comply with such requests.

11. Corporate Responsibility : Continue to support businesses in the district that give back to the community. For Example: St. Anthony Hospital supporting Mark Twain Elementary by donating hats, gloves, scarves, and school supplies to the students.

12. Science & Technology : Fund projects that benefit the people such as the medical research being done at Bone & Joint Hospital to fight a variety of illnesses dealing with the skeletal system.

13. Family Values: Raise the age from 16 to 18 to get married and to require pre-marriage counseling to couples before they can receive their marriage license application; create the Oklahoma Family Support Act requiring all public and private employers with 10 or more employees to grant an employee leave of up to a total 40 hours each year to attend school conferences and other school-related activities of their children.

14. Voters' Rights: Require voters to have a state driver license or state I.D. card to vote to prevent voter registration fraud and to eliminate voters off the registration roster that have not voted in 5 years consecutively

15. Taxes : Eliminate the state corporate and individual income taxes, decrease the state sales tax from 4.5% to 1% and replace it with a personal consumption tax on ALL goods and services sold in the state.

16. Balance Budget: Create zero-based budgeting in which every state department must justify all appropriations each year.

17. Pro Business Growth Eliminate Sabbath Day laws to allow businesses to conduct business on Sunday such as retail liquor stores, car dealerships, etc., if they chose.

18. District Improvements : Work with Oklahoma City officials to make improvements in our area such as getting The Underground to impressive levels to that of Atlanta and Houston and to create a metro transit rail system for the metropolitan area to attract more individuals to the Entertainment District which will allow people who might want to come downtown, but can't due to crowdedness and parking issues. Improve the drainage system in the Paseo District and increase the cultural awareness of the Asian District.

19. Foreign Investments : Form job creation through the “insourcing” of foreign companies to Oklahoma. These jobs, often requiring sophisticated skills and providing good salaries, appear in such areas as management consulting, high-tech manufacturing, and research and development. Honda, Samsung, Roche, and Nestle are just some examples of foreign companies with large U.S. subsidiaries.

20. Government Reform : Downsize state government by placing Oklahoma Water Resources Board under the Department of Environmental Quality, placing the Department of Mental Health under the Department of Health, and creating the Oklahoma Department of Justice headed by the state's attorney general, which will housed the Department of Corrections, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Narcotics, ABLE Commission, and the Attorney General's Office which includes several investigative units.
